This is indeed Chopin's first published composition. However, before this and by the age of 7 he had already produced a number of Polish dances and variations which have not survived but are mentioned in the Warsaw press. This truly is an exceptional composition.

According to one source of information, this is Chopin's earliest known composition. He was about seven years old when he wrote it in 1817. His genius was already apparent.
