Blind Runner Makes History at Half Marathon With Guide Dogs

Thomas Panek crossed the finish line at the New York City Half Marathon, making him the first blind man in history to complete the race with guide dogs. Panek's three dogs took turns running by his side, navigating him safely through the 13.1-mile race course. Panek ran cross-country in high school, but had to stop when he lost his eyesight after suffering from retinitis pigmentosa. He started Guiding Eyes for the Blind, which pairs visually impaired people up with dogs so they can run again. #InsideEdition

My cousin just found out he was legally blind. It had been really hard for my Ailton’s in this point in life. He’s only 13 and his little brother had a high chance of getting it too. He just got a guide dog and he loves her! It is bringing love to our family to see him happy!

I was a puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes. She completed training but ultimately released and I adopted her. She died a year ago. RIP Baby girl. I'm thinking of doing it again.

Actually, our school’s “enemy”, Lexington, had the first person to ever run with a guide dog in a cross country team.. her owner was Sami Stoner.. This made big news back in 2011..
