Time to revisit my grail, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Duoface, reference 270.8.54.
I bought it used almost 3 years ago and it is still one of my favorites.
The honeymoon phase with this one has grown into true love, as I still adore everything about the watch.
The looks, the quality, wearability, just everything!
The accuracy has dropped a bit, but given the age of the watch, it just needs a service.
The case does show hairline scratches quite easily because it is so highly polished, so it is definitely not good as an everyday watch, which in my case it isn't. I use it as a weekend and special occasions watch, and for that, it is PERFECT!
Rarely does a watch combine so many things in one, beauty, quality, iconic status and brand pedigree the way Reverso does.
I am truly happy I got mine when I got it and it is definitely staying in my collection!!

I wear a Reverso as a beater. All day. Everyday. The original leather strap didnt survive the first year. Put it on a rubberized leather. Ive done sports activities, went to swimming pools and the ocean (with care). Its been 5 years. Got some light hairline scratches no big deal. Still keeping perfect time. And looking stunning! My faithful companion.

It’s nice to have a watch you still love after several years.

I made similar experience with my Duoface. I wear it very seldom, only on the silver side, went through several straps, but I would never sell it. It is just gorgeous.

JLC has 8 years of warranty. Perhaps it is worth checking if it still has a valid warranty and get that watch serviced free of charge. In any case, I would rather give 800€ to JLC for service and get that case polished as part of the service, get the 2 years JLC warranty, than give it to the local watchmaker. On the other hand, of you see your reverso being always running too fast, maybe it only got magnetized?

Two comments, as an owner of a similar watch:
1. I doubt that these are still 35% up with the recent fluctuations in the market.
2. As you have discovered, it can be difficult to get a good fit with rectangular watches. I bought mine during the height of covid as part of a bigger purchase, and did not try it on. The fit was terrible, similar to your experience by the sounds of it. I was saved by Casa Fagliano in Argentina, who make Reverso straps with “curved ends”. It’s pretty expensive, but it saved this watch for me. Agreed, I love mine too!

This is a much nicer version than the current one. I like that the company name is on a blank plate on the dial and is clear and readable. At the moment it’s written on the uneven part of the dial and looks like a black smudge.

You've just helped me make up my mind, I'm going to make a purchase, thanks.

Thank you. An owners long term view is very helpful for someone thinking of a purchase.

A grail of mine. A stunning watch to say the very least. Great history and continued classic great looks. Thanks for sharing.

This is one beautiful watch, iconic. There should be a Reverso in everyone's collection, in my humble opinion 😊

My collection so far is an IWC mark XVIII pilot watch and a Rolex date just, but I have to say I could not want a watch any more than I want a JLC reverso duoface with an Ostrich strap

Likewise 2 years in on mine, I picked up at preowned reverso 986 duodate 2 years back and have worn it almost I’d say everyday since, and still loving it every bit as much 👍👍👍

A beautiful watch that's for sure, you say if you're thinking of getting one go for it, easier said than done...lol...I'll carry on dreaming, and who knows what may happen.

For me, this is the most classy and beautifull watch ever. Perfection. Dont need to prove anything with size, classy square shape. If I have to choose just 1 watch for the rest of my life it would be Reverso for sure

Hey those are the same reasons why I like this reference the most!

Beautiful. I love the dark face side!! Thanks for sharing this. 👍

the duoface actually is thicker because of the 2nd face, if you look at their website almost every model of reverso has different specs in terms of dimensions. I do find it interesting how they basically designed each model meticulously rather than just using the same case dimensions so they could shove the same movement in a bunch of different models... if they're not selling you a gmt / duoface they're making a different movement so the watch is thinner...

Do you remember the place that sold watches in Japan you used buy from many years ago? Mainly citizen eco-drive watches. I can't remember.

Love it but in practice the GMT function makes no sense. The button should make the light face jump instead of the dark side as the dark face is the “home” with the day/night indicator. Not sure what JLC was thinking.
