There's more to fish, the message in the credits "thanks for the fish" (Hitchhikers reference), they die to fall damage, they disintegrate with concentrated mana, and they are connected to orbs. I'm convinced fish are a part of the unsolved mysteries.

death crosses have innate homing on mobs marked as 'innocent creatures'
one time i made a digging wand that was: spark bolt trigger -> saw blade orbit -> death cross
i tested it in the holy mountain to see how good at digging it was
the death crosses immediately homed in on the fish which were on the opposite side of me, killing me instantly via sawblade orbit

I think the strangest thing about fish is that they are automatically targeted by death cross spells even if the death cross has a homing modifier. This makes death crosses pretty much unusable in the snowy depths, because all shots just go towards them, this strange behavior killed me several times

There is another strange mechanic associated with the fish, death crosses will home in on them for whatever reason

I have never realized that fishes are representation of orb progress. And I have spent a lot of time Noiting. I also have 33 orbs done, but this info about fishes is still new for me. Amazing game.

My theory for the fish was if you killed one you lost a fish for the remainder of the run, or if the fish live, you get an additional fish next run.

I never tested it and im clearly wrong now, but its neat that everything in noita has effects on everything else!

SO. He didn't say directly but when the fish die, their bodies are labeled "meat of an innocent creature".
He also didn't mention that the fish are Stainless 100% you cannot even give them the ambrosia effect or polymorph them.
he also didn't mention the fish are able to take fall damage.
the fish can also die to "sharp floor" or uneven terrain.
WHY are they Stainless, innocent creatures that the God's lackey kills? Stevari doesn't attack every creature on sight. he wont kill spiders even when they break the holy mountain. Why does he kill the "stainless innocent fish of true knowledge"
why do the fish only appear to you after you have gained "true knowledge"?
there's many puzzles in the game that require you to pour specific liquids in the available space. here we have two tanks and only one has fish. what is the puzzle we are missing??
has anyone got all the fish and then put an equal amount of another creature in the other tank? there's another type of fish that's red....

Just a note - save00 is not in the Steam library directory. It's normally in (you can copy that into your file explorer address bar).
