Locally here Harbour Air has been testing a retrofit electric on a float plane. The majority of their trips are short shuttle, 30-50kish which is perfect for charging between trips. The weight of battery packs has to be considered. The pilot says the torque at takeoff is quite superior!

It's all about battery power density. So far, all they're good for are short hops. There will have to be a paradigm shift in power density for this stuff to ever be practical on a wide basis.

Electric supports low noise, heat & maintenance. Add a little stealth & ground-based power (fabric solar panels + batteries?), and maybe you'd have a handy 'flying jeep' etc

Another thought. Lithium Ion batteries are light and the most energy dense. However it is illegal to transport them by air on commercial airlines. How about all the fires we have seen caused by Lithium Ion batteries. Not a good feature when flying at thousands of feet.
