The two strings were connected in the middle by a third string with a fake node if you pull one one of the sides the string acts like a loop and drags the other side, but when force is applied the fake node dissolves, leaving the two longer strings free to extend to max length.
This way the short rope could remain stuck in the middle when you open it, but if you do a double node in an 8 shape, in wich only one is a fake node, you can break the connection and make the rope disappear at the same time.

The trick is there is a rubber band which breaks when he pulls out the plastic pipe when revealing the trick at last😊😊😊
