Why do innocent people plead guilty to crimes they didn’t commit?

Why do innocent people sometimes plead guilty to crimes they didn't commit? This is just the tip of the iceberg. From coerced confessions to charge stacking to jailhouse snitches who are actively encouraged to "find" information, the practices that keep our system going are fundamentally unfair and fundamentally not about justice.

I was summoned to court before being taken into custody on subsequent charges. I won't get into it, but I was coerced into pleading guilty to the summoned charges, the subsequent ones were dismissed. My specially appointed counsel used her own suppressed evidence against me when she lobbied the case in my absence. The judge asserted that he was sentencing me according to guidelines. However, he lied and used deception before handing down a disparate sentence that has no precedent in Massachusetts judicial history. The case was denied a motion to withdraw the plea, denied on appeal, denied by the Massachusetts Supreme Court, and although it made it onto the docket of the United States Supreme Court, it was denied there as well. There have never been any hearings on the matter and the CPCS Committee for Public Counsel Services refused to assist me in any of these motions. I had no choice but to proceed pro-se. A brick wall ignored the indisputable evidence. Now, I started a YouTube channel Constitutional Fraud with William Toppi. I will be petitioning the Massachusetts Governor at the end of the series seeking a pardon. Thank you for sharing your story.

I took a plea deal in a self defense case. Guy I never seen before pulled a gun on me. I called 911 went to the police department. Told them the guy seemed high maybe mistaken me for someone else I reacted by trying to drive away, and jumped in front of my truck sustaining mild injury.
I've been on probation for a year after 2 years of court. The "victim" has multiple arrests, and now indicted on 3 felony charges. His charges are controlled substance group 1 and 2, assault of family impeding breathing, and aggravated assault with deadly weapon. There are other arrests such as bond violation and continuous family violence on his name. However the charge that came onto me from the incident is the first and only I've ever had. Justice doesnt fucking exist

My public attorney scared me into not taking my case to trail.

I got charged with 4 major felonies that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Spend 4 days in jail and have spent 10'650 in lawyer's fees before even stepping in a court room. I'm 3 days away for my first pretrial hearing and was contacted by my lawyer and told me that the state offered a plead to drop all felony charges if i plead guilty to a misdominor assault charge that they made out of the blue. I'm innocent but because of the money and risk of going to trail i leaning of taking the plea. This is in Virginia.

Not to mention sometimes the sketchy methods of interrogation too. The rate of false confessions is a lot higher than people realize, and the methods have been proven to have suspects doubt their own stories and say the aren’t sure if they did something or not.

The very idea could turn a good man, bad. Playing with people's lives will cost you, you just don't see it yet.

Id also add i lost my job due to all of this happening, and have found work elsewhere, on a deferred not even a convicted sentence, but still now struggle making 32k a year if i skip lunch for over time. My weekends consist of community service and cognitive classes. I hope this is a hurdle in life i just have to over come. However in one decisive action where if i didnt react to the assault i feel like id have ended up dead, and my kids fatherless. With only ruin to rebuild from. There are days i contemplate ending it all, so i guess the agressor won in this situation cause my own life has become such a hell, that i dont know at times if it was worth defending just to survive.

God help those in any similar situatoon, and please find a better attorney who will be willing to fight. Mine kept on about how impossible the jury option would be. Being that i sustained no injuries and he ended up with a fractured tibia? Leg bone.

He is spot on. I've seen it first hand myself. I'd love to collaborate with you. On some prison videos. The system is so rigged against you. From the police to the court system.

How do 100% innocent people end up in a situation where they’re being falsely accused of committing a crime?

Most the time it's not innocent people pleading guilty it's innocent people being railroaded into taking a plea bargain because they're told that's their best chance.

Biggest thing that anyone has to understand about why court appointed attorneys suck is because court appointed attorneys are hired by the same people who hire the prosecutors and in many counties the prosecutors and the court appointed attorneys are the same people. Which means their job is to get you to take a plea bargain.

Is my belief that a lot of this happens with underprivileged people who cannot afford high powered private defense attorneys if you can afford a high-powered private defense attorney, and there is a very likely that you’ll get off although I do not know I’ve never been in the situation that’s just my feeling
