How should schools handle cell phones? North Texas districts addressing issue in different ways

Teachers say phone use takes away time for learning and causes distractions. Evidence is growing about other problem too. But different district are offering up different solutions to the problem.

I am part of an entire generation that made it all the way from kindergarten through college WITHOUT a cell phone. If there was an emergency at home, the parents would call the school office and the school office would notify the student, as appropriate. Why are people suddenly unable to do without them for a few hours during the day?

I don’t agree with the school tablets and laptops starting in kindergarten. Technology given to students should have been postponed until middle school and traditional pencil and paper until then

Make rules that stick. That's what they did for yrs before cell phones.
Phones in school ARE a distraction to everyone.

No phones period. If you're caught with one, it's confiscated and not returned. This is a no brainer. If there's an emergency, a parent can always call the school office---you know since it's been like forever.

Years ago when I heard that schools were allowing cell phones, I thought it was a lie or a joke. It seems absurd to allow this. It's a total distraction from learning.

Only for emergencies other than that they shouldn’t be allowed. But I think the students can use them during lunch break but not during class. Again unless it’s an emergency

IDK why this is even a question. Of course cell phones do not belong in schools. And if your parent needs to reach you, call the school. And if it's something critical, get a pager temporarily.

Our school in ga has a no cell phone policy. Turn the phone in with the pouch when you come in and you get the phone when school is out

Give the phone to the teacher at the beginning of class, you get it back after class.
