I defo get a little gear envy from time to time.

I appreciate everyone else having the money to fall into the trap though.

I recently have been able to afford a 5d MK3 and canon 24-70 f2.8mk1. It has allowed me to take my photography to the next level and shoot in much more challenging conditions.

Trap number one is funny. I was told that to be a wedding photographer I need a lot of gear and I should stay clear of wedding photography because it’s super hard. But I want to be a wedding photographer so bad.

I've never understood the notion that you need to present yourself as unique in the market, for any type of photography let alone wedding photography, and agree with your thoughts here. You ultimately offer a product, a person (yourself), and a price. You can strive to deliver the same work (product) as any photographer that inspires you, and you might even get close to the personal experience they offer (person), but you as an individual and the price you offer yourself at is more than enough to be what sets you apart in a market. I could model myself off of Taylor and get pretty darn close in both product and service, and my selling point might be the price. Sure, if you've got the budget you can/should go with Taylor, but if you don't then maybe I can give you a near enough result for a more suitable price. Obviously this is hypothetical; I lack the mans musical genius.

For some reason in photography, and indeed other creative fields, we seem to shy away from this being a viable approach to building a business but it is fundamentally how all business works in an open and diverse marketplace.

I'm still new to this thing. 3 weddings down Since 2019 when I absolutely had no idea, last one being last Friday, and 2 more booked this year in September and November. I'm now super confident in my ability having both great feedback and photos I'd be proud to have had myself at my own wedding.

Two questions: should you fake the appearance of wedding experience when you know you can deliver a good job for clients to put them at ease?

Would you also consider doing a photo critique series like Froknowsphoto or FStoppers?
