I know this was vary simple for a lot of most car people, but it is nice to see someone taking the time to do the job with care and planning and no power tools.

Is it a good idea to spray a sealer on that gas tank so it doesn’t oxidize?

Great video! Years ago alot of the reproduction retaining rings that were available for the sending units were not made right. They were the wrong shap and size and could be made to work but were pure garbage. I'm guessing that problem has been resolved by now? If you are doing this job definately scrutinize your new ring compared to your original.

When I installed my gas sending unit I cut a 45 degree angle on (4) 2x4's. Then I cut the 2x4's to length, front two to one length and the rear two to another length so that when I attached each 2x4 at the 45 degree angled surface to the corner of the gas tank they became (4) legs. At this point the gas tank was sitting on the (4) legs and the opening for the sending unit was parallel to the table which made installing the sending unit a piece of cake, no grease needed. I did it that way after installing it with the tank in the car and I had a leak. 64 1/2 - 68 Mustang have a 16 gallon tank, 69 has a 20 gallon tank and 70 - 73 have a 22 gallon tank.

Hello Ben. Love the channel. I was wondering, why do you use a brass float instead of a plastic one? I have a 57 Thunderbird and the ethanol in today's fuel cause my brass float to fail and sink to the bottom of the tank resulting in a reading of "E" at all times. I put a plastic float in and fuel gauge reads perfect now.

I know you said the owner is not going for a concours restoration, but I am surprised that the paint inside the trunk is not glossy. Is that due to using basecoat / clear paint system?

Ben does anyone manufacture (good) carbon fibre panels for these old Mustangs? What’s your opinion?

Need some kind of locking cap? Jealous poopbox camaro and mopar owners might try to sabotage this beauty.

Do you put Dynamat in your restorations to quiet them up from road noise?
