I think people don't necessarily realize that Gordon intentionally starts a match on autopilot and likes his opponents to be tired before he even starts pushing the pace. And he exaggerates this in no time limit matches on purpose. He wants his opponent to feel like it's getting much worse for them over time. Even his chokes are like that, which he got from Garry's philosophy. A lot of times if you can survive the first 8 to 10 seconds of a choke, you'll be fine because your opponent can't keep up a max effort squeeze for very long. So after a few seconds of a really tight squeeze, if you can survive, it gets easier and easier. Gordon and Garry's chokes reverse this scenario. They start off barely squeezing and just slightly adjusting everything. Then they squeeze a little tighter, and a little tighter, and eventually the opponent realizes it's only getting worse.

I remember at an EBI (I think) back in the day when Gordon had someone's back with a sunk in rnc. The guy stands up and tries to defend the choke while shaking his finger as if to say it's not going to work on him. Several seconds go by, and he taps.

Gordon also likes to do that as an overall match strategy, whereas Garry just tries to move so much that he stays ahead of you and if you try to keep up, he believes you'll gas out or slip up before he does. But he still applies the gradual intensity increase in his chokes.
