for people wondering, there is a theory that the nightmares are regular colorless animatronics that change their appearance using a soundwave device that tricks the brain into creating hallucinations around those animatronics, that's why they are like that, there are animatronics like that in the book Five Night's at Freddys: The Twisted Ones, and Nightmare is one of these but with a damaged soundbox, so basically Nightmare is the Nightmare Golden Freddy but at the final night his soundbox got damaged explaining why he's jumpscare got a strange voice, and he's color changed to black (The soundbox changed it since it got damaged) this is a pretty good theory in my opinion
