Thanks for the video WillE. I like the concept and the scenery and whilst I'd like to explore and see if it has a good "story" as well as the open-worldness, 7 days is not enough (I only get a few hours a week really). In any case, I prefer it when fantasy characters can be non-human - it's all very anime these days and a bit more love for us oldies who started this when you had to read 300 pages of D&D rules first wouldn't go amiss.

While I realize this is a straight up shill #ad, BDO is actually a very good game when played in reason and not falling prey to the cash shop. The combat is incredible, the world is gorgeous and well built, and the sense of immersion is top notch. You can literally do anything you want anytime, which is why a lot of people don't like it. Sandbox RPGs are not for everyone that is for sure. I've played it along side other MMOs like WoW, FF14 and ESO for quite a while now and I always keep coming back to play it. It is very much a long term progression game, and it's completely playable without spending money if you desire, because almost everything from the cash shop can be bought with silver you earn from playing the game.

BDO is indeed an awesome game, but if you're a casual, its one that requires some discipline to get the most out of. If you just dive into it heavily and grind as hard as possible to gear up, you'll quickly burn out.

If you treat it more like an RPG where you take the time to explore, do things at your own pace, and grid a bit here and there, than you'll get a lot more out of the game, and avoid burning out too quickly.

And heck if you ever do burn out, just quit and come back later, the combat alone is worth it.

The combat in the game is fun, but it didn't grab me like other MMOs

As far as I remember, I rage quit BDO after like 10 minutes. I couldn't change WASD to ESDF and the game intercepted autohotkey script commands somehow, so I couldn't use my capslock / escape just like in every other game. With such basic things not working and the UI being bloated as hell, I quit immediately.

Was interested in checking out BDO when it came out but man was it grindy and really hardcore... And I'm one who loves hardcore MMOs, RPGs and games.
Edit: ooh nice and speedy overlook to the early new player bit. Wish there was more of this than just skipping to midgame.

I heard the game intentionally creates problems so you can pay either "contribution points" (in game currency) or real money for even _better_ solutions to said problems.

Grats on the sponsor :) BDO is a great game but the burn out is real ive not played it in a year, but I have played for 4 years prior. p2w but fun, needs more endgame other than wars and grinding monsters, combat is 10/10

'First looks' at games like this are always worthless, as the reviewer is always still in the 'hook' phase where they get you invested before trying to rinse you for all you're worth.

You say impressions, I say paid for script reading. I know you have to eat, but I wouldn't put too much of this sort of "content" out or you'll alienate your viewers.

I dont like this asia setting of it for some reason, but men the landscape, professions, combat, and character editor in this game are on point!
