Brett Hornig and Leah Yingling join Finn Melanson on the Singletrack Podcast to help preview the women's and men's field at the 2024 Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc (UTMB).

In both fields, we cover top storylines and what to watch for, we answer some listener mail about the race, provide analysis of top contenders like Jim Walmsley, Tom Evans, Katie Schide, and Ruth Croft, categorize who we see as candidates for the win, for the podium, and the top 10, and we make bold predictions across a number of fun categories.

Additionally, we talk get a bit into some discussions around nutrition strategy, gear strategy, and a few other miscellaneous categories relevant to the event.

What do you think? What'd we get right? What'd we get wrong? Who's winning the women's race? Who's winning the men's race? Let us know in the comments below!

5 years ago I did not know about UTMB. The past 2 years I watched the race. Now I just thoroughly enjoyed 2 hours of UTMB insightful discussions… and next year I will fastpack the course with my son. Thanks to the 3 of you for fueling my passion!

Yeah, if you have Leah in the conversation, off course you ask the questions about the race to her, she has the experience and the intelligence to articulate it clearly!! Again a enjoyable episode! As per usual!🔥🔥😎😀

Great stuff. Emma Stuart from Ireland 🇮🇪 is a good hot take for doing well at UTMB

I am really getting into following ultra running. Does anyone have any recommendations for media sources? What platforms do y’all use to watch and catch up on what’s happening in the professional trail running world?🌎

Great episode. Going to be one for the ages. A 90percent Jim is going to make things interesting. Jim for the win from Dhiman and Evans. Ruth to crush the women's.

Great preview!
Unless he somehow has put a mega training block in the past 3 months, I don't think Pau Capell is back to his form from 3-5 years ago. He also had his first kid back in February which probably hasn't let him be 100% focused on training. Can't see a top10 for him here.
Thibaut Garrivier always lies low on the predictions and hasnt DNF'd a race since 2018 and hasn't finished outside the top 10 (barring the DNF) since 2016. That's including races like OCC, CCC, UTMB, a couple of Trail World Champs and Transvulcanias, Maxi-Race, Marathon du Mont-Blanc... dude's a machine

I am surprised you all slept on Martina Valmassoi. That is my take for 2 Salamon athletes in the top 10 along with Marianne Hogan.

90 Koreans will participate in some categories for this year at UTMB. 90 runners. Isn't that many from one country, compared with others?
