How To Inlay Snakeskin on a Skull! (and other surfaces)

I show in this video how to inlay snakeskin into a deer skull! This also works for other inlay mediums like knifes, etc. I do a bit of skull carving in preparation for the inlay and then cover how to fit the skin in correctly.

Thnx mate for the help! I've been struggling with patterns for a while and finding the right tools for the job. Back at home, the huntsmen and herders are wasting away good moose and reindeer skulls, none of those guys realize that the skull decorations are actually very cool decors for various places like bars and tattoo shops.

I'd use masking tape instead of paper. Just tape over the area twice, once horizontally and once vertically then use a razor knife to scribe and cut the edges. Then pull the tape off and use it as the template.

A little off subject, but I went to your most recent vid. I have a beautiful 8pt that's not big enuf to make Mo. Big Bucks or B&C. so I'm not trying to pass him off as a record, but he has a short G3 on the left side that is 5 inches shorter than the one on the right. My question is, is there anyway to elongate that tine without having to saw it offend build a totally new point. I just want the rack to look more symmetrical, and make for a prettier mount. If both sides were the same he would score in the high 140's.

The glycerin doesn’t effect the bond of the snake skin to the bone using the gel?

Question do you carve any other bones other then just skulls? If so do you do any commission work?

I’m just getting into this, was gonna try to make a few chess pieces out of antler. If I end of carving into the center of the antler, is there enough structural integrity in the antler naturally, that will keep the piece together? If not, is it better to use a large bone instead of antler? This is an art I can say I didn’t know existed and it’s awesome!
