Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak fined by police over lockdown party

Britain's most famous gated community is in trouble tonight. The residents of Number 10 and 11 broke the laws they made for the rest of us during an unforgettable period when we weren't allowed to attend funerals, christenings - let alone birthday parties.

They did so despite this being the most heavily policed street in the country and today the police issued them with fixed penalty notices.

Once upon a time - before the 24th February when Russia invaded Ukraine - today's news might have heightened the chorus for resignations from inside the Tory party. But not today. In the last hour the prime minister apologised, paid his fine - and made clear he wasn't resigning.

No smirk, no smug looks, no Latin, and pah.
No shame, no morals, no guilt.
Its your fault UK for letting these thugs get away with it for so long.

Let’s not forget it’s not just lying about the parties - he stood up in parliament and lied about it - that means he has to resign.

It's not partygate it's liargate.

My mum died on the same day this party took place in 2020. I wasn't allowed to hold her hand or hug her as she died because of Covid rules. No fine will ever justify their actions compared to what the public sacrificed.

I urge everyone else in the country who does wrong in life, who breaks the law, just to apologise & say 'let's move on'

You're Pathetic Mr Johnson

David Lammy is correct..; it is unforgivable..if we let this pass where does it stop?

That was not an apology from Johnson, it was an attempt to belittle and self justify law breaking activity.

Looking on that from Germany I must say I am shocked . A country calling itself a democracy seems to put a person first and the law second . Something similar happened in my country some time back

You broke the law that's why you got a fine! Pure and simple! Anyone who holds public office and get's caught should resign, simple as that.

Do you think Boris is sorry for attending those parties? Or is he just sorry that he got caught? How can anyone believe a single word that comes out of his mouth ever again?

He is the worst P.M. ever and deserves NO RESPECT along with the rest of his cabinet for trying to cover for him. It's now obvious we cannot believe a word he says.

Any Tory who does not call for his resignation is complicit in his "do as I say not as I do" mentality.

" I did not attend any parties " a quotation from the Chancellor of the Exchequer is terrible,

“He’s apologised. He’s paid the fine. Now he wants to get on with running the country”….into the ground. They keep missing that bit off

Shocking. I lost my father at 66years old and he had to die in a room alone. They have to go. 2 family members got a call at 2am and had 10mins to say Disgusting

It shouldn't need bringing up that this means he definitely lied to the house when he first said he didn't know of any parties then he didn't attend any later to then become the guidelines were followed. If that was the case he couldn't have been fined. Surely he has to resign now but I won't hold my breath.

Using the Ukraine tragedy as cover for his shameful behaviour is a new low for Boris.

"A Birthday party" at his age ? Completely surrounded by psycophants, is not something an adult at any level would consider normal during the working day ! :)

He is still not really admitting that he did anything wrong

Why is the fact that he paid the fine quickly important? Puzzled how that makes it ok
