Really enjoying the new series and the accompanying shorts. Much better short content than the AI slop that was being posted before! Not sure what all the bot comments are about but keep it up 👍

Lots of bot comments. Try to ignore them they are designed to stoke division and infighting

Mouldboard plough adoption had allowed a larger, well fed population.

the history of that period shows this conclusively, and I've been saying this for many years, but the sheer amount of scorn this notion attracts from most people is incredible. it goes so against the grain for most continental Europeans who build massive ego complexes on inverting history to slander the English... especially the French, to whom pompous arrogance is an entire way of life.

England led the way in organisation and centralisation many times from the Early Medival to the present.

it didn't end up winning the empire game for nothing.

Do you two wonderful historians have any opinions on the current fall of the UK? Pretty obvious to those of us across the pond in Canada and as ugly as history gets.

The French invasions have the same exact reason though as alluded to by the charlemagne comment which France is one of the crowns in that empire the issue with charlemagnes empire and the successor states of it is they are massively decentralised and French nobles want to become king of England because England's centralisation makes it more valuable than trying to take over the French crown.

It was the fall of the Romans that caused the Germanics to prosper.. basically the Latin lost and germanics won.. that was the start of the Medieval period

Any recommended reading for this period? I'm English and I must admit I assumed in this period that we were a relatively irrelevant state in Europe and not too wealthy

Pedantic comment that England is not a nation-state at this time in history

Well I visited downtown Birmingham a few years ago and I wouldn’t want to invade it if you paid me to do it. Too dangerous.
