Here is what i think would happen:

An elephant is eating some grass. The stegosaurus is hungry, so it walks towards the elephant and tries to whip the elephant, to scare it off and get its meal. The elephant, being 3 to 4 times faster, dodges the stegosaurus’ tail. The brawl begins!

The elephant, with its superior intelligence, realises the stegosaurus can only attack with its tail, so it pivots in front of the stegosaurus and tries to use its tusks to pick up the stego. The stego manages to turn a bit and whip the elephant on the side. That hurt the elephant, but it didn't hit any major arteries or organs in its body. The elephant thought of grabbing the stegosaurus’s tail, but that could be very dangerous, and could die from getting whipped in the face. Instead, the elephant slaps the stegosaurus in the face with its trunk, and ran behind the stego, as the stego would try to turn and whip the elephant.
Then, the elephant tried to sprint at the stegosouras’s side with all its strength, put its tusks under the stegosaurus’s stomach, while gripping on its back, inbetween the plates with its trunk, so the plates cant hurt the elephant. It starts to tilt over the stego. The stegosaurus tries to whip the elephant, but as its falling, its tail doesent land properly. The elephant then stomps the stego’s head, causing it to die



The elephant’s iq lead it to victory majority of the time imo, but not so easily

I would say elephant. Given an elephant that has superior intelligence and also its way faster . I am pretty sure a charging bull elephant at full speed with near 6ft long tusk would stab the stegosaurs.

Well, I agree, BUT if the elephant smashes it’s head against the stego’s head, that stegosaurus would be dead. They have very tiny vulnerable heads, against the massive, car-sized skull of the elephant. And Stegosaurs are notoriously well known for being stupid, unlike the elephant, so the elephant could find ways around the thagomizer, using both its brain and slightly higher mobility. The ele could potentially stab the underbelly, using it’s tusks
Anyway that’s just my verdict. Elephant wins just a slightly higher percentage in my opinion, of which I respect yours aswell.

People are acting as if the elephant has a conscience speaking to it and telling it weak points and analyzing the fighting patterns of the stegosaurus.

Elephants are intelligent, but they’re not military generals when it comes to fighting intelligence. Most of the time when they fight, they just run into each other or whatever they’re fighting and hope it dies, it’s not like they have split second thinking. These things are not Jurassic Park velociraptor.
