To maintain privacy during their getaways, royal biographer Robert Jobson shared that the couple adopted Hollywood-style pseudonyms.

Jobson explained, “For weekends and holidays, he’d often whisk Catherine off to Highgrove or Sandringham or to a cottage on the Balmoral estate…Occasionally, they checked into hotels, using the names Mr. and Mrs. Smith - which doubtless fooled no one.”

While some speculated that the names were inspired by the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Mirror points out that Smith is simply a common surname in the UK, and the couple had been dating since 2001.
