The EVILution of Communism Workshop, Session 2

Communism is a religious view that has evolved and adapted over the last two centuries, including right up to the present day. Understanding the developments and threats in our present world requires understanding what Communism really is, especially in its Marxist variants, and how it has developed and changed over the years. In response to this need, James Lindsay of New Discourses held a four-lecture workshop series on the EVILution of Communism in Dallas, Texas, at the start of August 2024.

The second and third lectures in this series focus on what might be considered two tracks of twentieth-century Communism, both arising in different contexts, East and West, after the failure of Karl Marx's nineteenth century agitational evangelism. In this second lecture, the Eastern track is the focus, tracing the development of the Soviet Union through Vladimir Lenin's Bolshevik Party as a vanguard. Here, James Lindsay characterizes Eastern Marxism as a broadly state-industrial project, referring to Leninism, Stalinism, and Maoism variously as "Industrial Communism" and "State Communisms" for reasons he lays bare. The general theme is turning the state into an industrial apparatus for the socialist transformation of man himself, in addition to society and nature. In the end, the Eastern model of Marxism (Leninism, Stalinism, general Sovietism, and Maoism) failed everywhere it was attempted, leading to one of the greatest tragedies of human history.

The other three lectures in this series can be found here:

It hurts. Truly it feels like a physical pain to hear all that garbage once again. I was born and 'educated' in socialist Czechoslovakia, unfortunately I know rather precisely what is it about. Good job. Dr Lindsay. Not sure if the western blindness to communism can be helped, but at least I can appreciate an honest attempt.

The first words that I heard were "the proletariat and bourgeoisie"
and had to audibly groan and cuss about how much I really freaking hate everything about these sophist ideologies.
But, like James has said before, "you have to hate deception" 🤙

Anyone know if James has ever mentioned Anatoly Golitsyn? Golitsyn was a defector from Intelligence inner circle who warned that the long term plan was to restructure globally and falsely advertise it as a "collapse."

“Democracy is of great importance for the working class in its struggle for freedom against the capitalists. But democracy … is only one of the stages in the course of development from feudalism to capitalism, and from capitalism to Communism” (Lenin, LCW, vol. 25).
Communism is feudalism

Incredible discourses James, I wish you would make this available to everyone it would go a long way for those who are seeking to understand where this world chaos is coming from a historical perspective and how it's all playing out in our current existence.
Thank you

Around 35 minutes in he mentions that thing about hearing the same phrases over and over. I honestly used to think I was imagining it / was going crazy! It wasn't until I saw a video, I think on Twitter. (When I was still on there.) It showed a bunch of media outlets saying the same phrases over and over. I don't even remember what the phrase was. But it was all these different people and channels overlaid on each other and it was the same thing! They were ALL saying the same thing. That was the point where I realized it was intentional, I wasn't imagining it, and I was not going crazy!

The UK leader just redefined what 'working class' means. Very meaningful, given that when Lenin says, 'the working class will suppress the ruling class', he forgot to let you know that he also means, 'we'll define the working class and ruling class however we want, such that, if the working class become a concern or step out of line, they will be treated as the ruling class, and will be suppressed accordingly'. Well, that explains the Gulag system and deaths of millions of people, and the endless division of the 'farmer' into lesser and lesser 'farmers' and 'capital-holders' and 'rulers' until what you're talking about is a random, homeless citizen picking up grain from the ground. 'Owning a single grain for survival is an act of the ruling class and is a form of capitalism; thus, it must be suppressed'. That means, they refuse to let you eat, even for life. Outcome? Death. Millions of deaths via starvation and 'suppression' (here, meaning direct murder and various forms of indirect murder). This is partly why such a system can never work, because they cannot properly define the 'working class', given that it can include anybody and anything we find 'unhelpful' or 'unproductive within a socialist state' or in the terms of the Germans, 'undesirable' or, in the extreme, 'life unworthy of life'.

They say con men refer to those who planned to gain your confidence, and take advantage of you later. I now see con men also mean those who planned to throw you confusion, with the use of words and any possible dual meanings of the words used, to take advantage of you for the rest of your life. Amen. A huge thank to Dr Lindsay.

19:56 I only read in those excerpts is the reassertion that Labor is the most important thing, which even defines our humanity, therefore the supposed capture of surplus valor by the Capitalist is not only wrong but dehumanizing.

Liz Schwartz: Burning question I've been wondering about for a while: What do you think about the successful model of collectivism (Communism) in small numbers, such as a commune or a kibbutz? It seems like Communism can work on a small scale, in a small community, including even a family farm, but it breaks down on a larger scale such as a state, province, or country. Perhaps, 25 people can do it? Or 100? Why? What is the limit, assuming that I'm right in my assertion? And if I'm right, why doesnt it scale? Homogany? Familiarity among members? What am I missing? Could a Republic of small Communisms work, for example?

I wonder if there's a significant connection among Shaw's Pygmalion, Hawthorne's The Birth-Mark, and legalists' desire merely to change behavior rather than to change hearts.
