Curry Trowel for stucco or interior plastering. Swim pool trowel, camel back.
I have been in contact with Marshalltown who said they will begin making the 5-inch withs with just the corners arked and not a full radius. As curry no longer makes these trowels.
Folks, we are located in Oakland, CA.

Howdy Folks, all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.
Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.

For immediate bids, send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below.
Calling all trowel manufacturers worldwide.

I have reached out to Marshalltown, and others to make this one, made by "Curry" usually sold by Bontool. It seems it's not made anymore?
Trowel manufacturers around the world; produce this trowel. I’ll promote it for you at no cost.

Tip folks, the average plastering trowel is rectangular 14 in length, and 5 inches wide.
This is okay for some, however, the trowel in this video is the king of trowels.

I prefer my 20 inches by 5 inches, but for my sons and others, I tell them to use the 16-inch ones.
Perhaps I’ll try some companies in India, as they seem willing and able why the USA companies seem unwilling or unable.

Howdy folks, this is the perfect trowel I prefer to plaster with.
Folks, I recommend working with the trowels that you are comfortable with.

Ole Kirk says, “The best Plastering or stucco trowel is Kirk Giordano’s swim-pool trowel used in all our videos.”
I thought I would highlight details about my trowel of choice for over 35 years, as inquiring minds want to know.
You would have to watch this video below to understand,
I share my experience of why I prefer a customed swim-pool trowel Vs. the standard rectangular plaster or stucco trowel.
Or what is called an ordinary swimming pool trowel?
“FYI, a typical swimming pool trowel has a perfect radius and a width of 3 to 4 inches. Widths are great for Cement Masons, BUT NOT for stucco or plastering applications” as the width is too narrow. Thus the blade does not flex.

Trowel videos,

A master and or journeyman plasterer moves the mud where they want it.
This comes with wrist strength and flexibility of extra width.
Again a swimming pool trowel of only 4 inches or less in width is ideal for cement finishing but tougher to use for skilled plastering applicators.

They are designed for pushing the rocks in cement down to a smooth level, often using much strength, thus the smaller width.

Thanks for watching.

Is this correct
If I apply heavy, stiff lime plaster then it’s best to use a trowel with curved corners ? The reason is that I can apply much greater pressure into joints in the walls than with a square trowel and thus be more successful at getting the stiff lime plaster to stick not the wall. Lime plaster don’t like water, or it cracks on drying. Thank you sir, nice karate white outfit you wear, cutting through bullshit.

I do plaster restoration and drywall patch & repair in philadelphia, and use a 16x5 or a 12x4 square so I can get into corners with it. Watching your videos, I'm thinking about getting a pool trowel, and chopping off one of the curved ends, so I can still get into corners with one side, but do the field of the skim with the other end.

I am a DIY'er and have watched a lot of your videos. Too bad I found them a little too late for my current project, but I have learned a tremendous amount from them. Thank your making these so we can all learn from your 30+ years of experience.

I like the partially radius-ed trowels too. It makes me feel better to know that a pro admits the same because others were giving me the evil eye saying things like "if you're good, you don't need to use a pool trowel." Well, I used it anyway because it worked for me. Similarly I prefer the gauger trowel over the margin trowel.

I don't think you can get these in the UK, I haven't seen anyone use them anyway. I can see the appeal mind. I was told that you shouldn't use a larger trowel than 14" (12x5 being the ideal trowel) for stuccoing / cement as you don't get the same compression with a big ass trowel, or is that utter bullsh*t?

It makes perfect sense why you use the larger trowels, totally get it, it's probably closer to a darby as well right? Also, inside on larger walls (as you were showing us, plastering like the British) I use an 18" quite often to lay on the pink.

Hello, Kirk,
Great video! I have been looking for a serrated darby for a few weeks now, but without any success. I found polyurethane darbies on Amazon and Ebay, but they are not really serrated. They have cross-grain faces for float finishing. They will still bring the sand out, I guess. Do you think they will do? All the other ones are smooth. :(
Also, I have a stainless steel plastering hawk, but I was told to throw it in away. What's wrong with using stainless steel tools? There are really nice hawks made of plastic/aluminium, but do I really need to dispose of mine?

I asked the folks at Bon Tools about the 12-904 Swim Pool Trowel and they responded, "The 12-904 is a Curry Trowel made by Curry not Bon Tool. We discontinued the Curry line. Could not get them."

Excellent video and thanks again Kirk. I can't seem to find a 16X5 non full radius trowel on bontools.com I may be blind but did you get full radius ones from there and cut them down? Thanks.

Would a swimming pool trowel like the Marshalltown be good for skimming a ceiling with drywall compound? Would you still want to square off the end a bit?
