ESN Annual Marketplace 2022: Dispatching zero carbon assets in the control room

Storage and smaller zero carbon assets typically find it difficult to access the current market structures and participate on a true level playing field with larger fossil fuel assets. With the release of the transparency data from the Balancing Mechanism, we’ve been able to improve our understanding of how assets are dispatched and what decisions are made by the Electricity System Operator. This session will explore some of the trends we’ve found in this newly released data, what it means for zero carbon flexibility and generation, and what needs to change to ensure we decarbonise flexibility services in line with net zero.
