How to REVERSE with PROPWALK

On an inboard boat, you might experience something called propwalk while in reverse.

If reversing for an extended period, you may experience that the boat creeps to the port side. This is called propwalk.

The cause of this is the rotation and shape of the propeller. If the propeller spins counterclockwise while in reverse, you’ll find that you drift port. The leading edge of the prop is flat and acts as a paddle. Not only does it move the boat backwards, but it also pushes water to the side so the stern creeps port.

If reversing a short distance, you will not notice the movement. But over an extended period, you will.
