Understanding Nebulae And Their Colors

preview_player
Показать описание
Nebulae are some of the most beautiful features in the universe. They are simply clouds of gas and dust in space. Some nebulae are the birthplace of stars, such as the Orion Nebula, some are the remains of dead stars such as planetary nebulae and supernova remnants, and some are mixtures of several different types of nebulae. What makes them beautiful is the colors. They can often have very distinct colors, but what do they actually mean?

These stunning colourful images of nebulae are what got me interested in learning about the cosmos as a child. They are so mesmerising that I wanted to know everything about them; how they form, why these colours, where are they, how big are they, etc etc. I used to buy only those calendars which had these images so that I could stare at them whenever I wanted. The passion has only gotten stronger...lol

finally, thank you for this. I've been going down a scientific rabbit hole from 'is it possible to land on a gas giant?' to 'how do nebulae get their colours?' being a writer sends you to so many interesting places for answers

Your videos are really helping me to understand cosmological concepts and it really helps in my astrophysics studies

Spectroscopy is used as a tool for studying the structures of atoms and molecules. The large number of wavelengths emitted by these systems makes it possible to investigate their structures in detail, including the electron configurations of ground and various excited states.

Even in the cold and gray of space, it's very colorful

This is a great video. I was looking for information on what colours nebulae can be and this seems to have done a good job of it. I guess most nebulae are red and violet, since hydrogen (usually red) and helium (usually violet) are the most common gases. Though what colour are supernova remnants? Or is it pretty much what we see in the video, being green and red, and yellow or orange where the two mix?

Is it no longer possible to make a serious scientific video, without stressful effects that require warnings for epileptics?
