There's some people who REALLY get into rock polishing, go rock finding for rare/cool ones, get all the different grits, and use certain grits for different types of rocks. Some are softer and some are harder, so sometimes you need to put it in for longer or shorter. I know 'cause of my grandpa.

I too wanted a rock tumbler, as a child, but never got one. About 20 years ago, I did give one to the daughter of one of my friends, but I never heard if she liked it or not.

Make sure, if you use your own rocks to tumble that they are all the same kind or at least the same hardness. If they aren’t, your softer rocks will end up being broken up and possibly even disintegrated while tumbling.

We had one when I was a kid, and we hated it. It took so long to get the rocks smooth and shiny that we kids were bored out of our minds checking on it every day and seeing almost no change in the appearance of the rocks. After we finally completed one batch of shiny rocks, and groaned and moaned about how long it took, our mom put her foot down and said no more of that rock tumbler.

Did you learn how load the thing was! And couple days is actully 2 weeks then 2 bg is 3 weeks and 3 to 4 bgs are 3 to 4 weeks ! We go our kid the Natunal Geographic one! We did only 2 bgs because it was to load. You have keep it going all the time. We live in 1 bd appartment. We had put it in a box with blankets on it to quiet it down. Sorry spell check not working!
