Austin city leaders can't learn from California cities, and so are following in their footsteps by basically inviting homeless people to their city. Not all homeless people are drug addicts or mentally ill. But enough of them are that rather than bend over backwards to make it easier for them to stay on sidewalks, they should make it more difficult.

There is an 'implied consent' law that says if you drive a car that you are giving permission to be tested for alcohol and other drugs. Sleeping on the streets shouldn't be made legal, rather it should be set up in the law that doing so constitutes 'implied consent' for drug and mental health screening, and if found necessary, implied consent to be forcibly committed to drug rehab or a mental institution.

If they don't do something like that, the homeless, the feces, the used hypodermic needles, the crime, the assaults. and the invasions of property will only get worse.

Perhaps the city leaders don't care, or are not smart enough to fix it.

this is horrible. the city needs to address this by providing shelters, not allowing people to camp anywhere they want. they are going to ruin property values and compromise safety

Have we not learned from San Francisco with it's 8000 homeless.. just saying .. this obviously doesn't work.. you feel bad for homeless then invest in mental centers or housing in the suburbs.. do not ruin a beautiful city

Who is responsible for the cleanup? How about the people that created the mess. Show up with contractor garbage bags and a dumpster and give them two options 1. cleanup or 2. jail and then work release to cleanup.
