You can watch prices increase over a month of so and then the "sale" on Black Friday is just it going back to the price it was in September

I'm glad that Black Friday isn't a big deal anymore. People literally got assaulted or trampled to death because a big TV was cheaper. That never should have been the case.

I am a bit older and remember the REAL Black Friday experience. Mom would get us up around 3 am and we would go to the Mall and get a great parking space. We would walk over to Denny's for breakfast and be back to the store in time for doors to open. They had raffles, sealed cards that contained discounts or dollars off, and some gave out freebies to the first hundred customers through the door. I was never in a fight or pushing as shown in the video. We ran for the good deals, but people were civilized. I have fond memories of those times, but now Black Friday has been ruined by these early sales and semi-deals.

The most diabolical black friday thing that happened to me this year was getting a Danessa Myricks 35% off sitewide sale email with the Lightwork palette pictured IN THE EMAIL. Is the Lightwork palette included in the sale? Of course not. I'm so mad about that lol. Brands should not be able to call a sale "sitewide" if they have specific items excluded.

You are so right. It’s a joke. Used to be so much fun. Now it’s a month long.

I worked at Target from 2007-2012 - more specifically the electronics dept. One Black Friday, this lady came in at 10 am (by then most items are sold out). She wanted a tv that was on sale. We were sold out at that point and she was mad. She took the newspaper/ad she was carrying with her, rolled it up, and hit me with it. I was in shock and all I could do in that moment was walk away. I’ve never shopped on Black Friday and I absolutely refuse to do so especially after that experience. 😅

The only thing I’ve bought today is a sweater for my mom. I swear it was $80 online a couple weeks ago. Now it’s listed for $100 at 40% off. So now it’s $60. I’m glad I waited to buy today since I saved a few bucks, but the whole thing feels deceptive.

Yes! Sales happen all the time! Knowing that definitely stops me from making impulse purchases.

I was waiting all day yesterday for yesstyle's sale. (Previously they would do a higher discount)
I literally refreshed my cart the *moment* the new code came out and saw the value of it go up! They had raised the price of various items the moment their official BF sale started. How disappointing

I found myself looking forward to Black Friday this year until I realized I didn’t actually need or want anything. Usually at this point in the year there’s a few things that I’ve had my eye on, but I kind of realize that since I’ve finally gotten a well paying job, I have a lot more room in my budget to just buy the things I want when I want. And I’ve never been the most materialistic person either. I get really anxious if I have too many toiletries in my bathroom or just too much clutter in my house. I already have three different hair conditioners I’m cycling through right now- I don’t need any more!! 😂

I went out to Walmart on Thanksgiving day once, for one item and one item only- a dog bed for an ole lady dog I was pet sitting for. She was arthritic with hip problems, but for some reason the family just had her sleeping on the floor; she wasn't allowed on any furniture and you could see her struggling to get up when she stood. So out I went. I knew the family personally so I took matters into my own hands and because they hadn't spent any money themselves, they were fine with the bed. 😐 Later they even said she loved it so much and it was one of her favorite places to be. Made going out during the consumerism madness 100% worth it.

What drives me up the wall is that now with a longer lead up to sales, stores feel the need to VARY sales, which inevitably makes things harder for me as a consumer. If all a business's lipsticks are on sale on Friday and then the blushes on sale on Saturday and then the foundations are on sale on Sunday, do they really expect me to place three orders? Pay shipping three times? Or better yet from their perspective, try to spend enough to meet the free shipping minimum three times? I would end up spending WAY more money than if I had just ordered things weeks ago when I was ready to restock instead of waiting for Black Friday.

Man I miss watching the Saturday morning news to see what fights broke out 😂

It seems like I get the same e-mails every other week announcing a sale, but they just change the headline for Black Friday. The discount stays the same.

I went to the pharmacy today(black Friday) to weigh myself because they said it was 50% off.😂

The one item I hung on to purchase on black Friday increased by £20 the day before black Friday, then reduced to 1p below original price on black Friday. Now I refuse to buy it 😂

I make a list of items I know I like and always reuse, and I purchase only those items if they're on sale. For example, I know from experience the shampoo and conditioner I like that's normally $30 will go on sale for 40% to 50% off at Ulta some time during the Christmas holiday season, and usually one day during 21 Days of Beauty. I think it's really about having a list, sticking to it, and not making impulse purchases.

I kinda prefer the month-long sales as I am a chronic procrastinator and indecisive so I need to mull it over for a few days before making a decision anyway. The deals could definitely be better but I also don’t mind that too much either as it’s very easy for me to not make a purchase when something is only 20% off. Overall, this evolution has been a net-positive for me wallet lol.

Something unorthodox I’ve done to help me stay with the make up that I have is I keep most of my make up in the original box and packaging that it came in and keep them in my makeup organizer. When I get the urge to buy make up, instead of going to the store, I “shop” my stash and I’ll “pay” myself by transferring money into my savings account and then I’ll select makeup put it into a Sephora bag, and then open the packaging like it’s the first time.
