This video probably the best one for this change.

There's a simple visual with commentary.

As someone who plays a lot of aggro this is a unnecessary set of training wheels. It rewards sloppy attacks and makes combat tricks worse.

The rules change is so it’s more appealing to attacking style decks.

This was a great explanation! Now I understand!

Apparently I've been playing the "new way" this whole time

How does it work with trample? With trample you only have to assign lethal damage to the creature. If your 6/6 trample attacks, and a 3/3 blocks you could assign 3 damage to the creature, and three to the player. Does that still work? Or is all the damage blocked after a giant growth?

So do the blockers still do damage with the new rules?

wait you can do this without trample? i thought you can only assign lethal to 1 creature if the creature doesn't have trample

Can they not cast spells when you assign damage?

Incorrect damage assignment still exists but your opponent may not react once damage has been assigned

Best explanation I've seen! Thanks 🫡

Unfortunately this is nerfing an entire set of spells making them pointless to cast during combat. All this is gonna do is make people have less incentive to run quick boost spells like Giant Growth. There are entire decks people have built revolving entirely around the original way it is done. With this change they are all useless. I don't support this change at all and will rule 0 it away at all my games I play.

It feels like trample without the trampleing

So its easier, and in most cases you would just block with one minotaur anyway

Boo, wizards eliminating strategy from the game.

If you have a giant growth in this scenario why bother blocking with 2 creatures. Every time I see this rule change explained it always has pointless double blocking.

So basically slightly improving a combat strategy. Ok not that bad, I kinda like the change

I appreciate this change
it always felt wrong that the defender had more advantage than the attacker and this also simplifies it making it easier for new players to understand rather than feel confused.
