Went there on a field trip about 15 years ago. The place is very odd. There are no traffic lights, and their roads are a free-for-all. The cars are all tiny european cars, and most of them look damaged. The food is awful and very expensive, but the baked goods are amazing. The whole place is very quaint, aside from the giant fucking discoteque. EVERYBODY smokes there, even the children, and they smoke indoors. We stayed at a hotel that proudly displayed one of Al Capone's hats that he had left there years ago. The waters surrounding the islands are litered with shipwrecks from the prohibition days. My classates and I also discovered that they air hardcore pornography on cable tv in the middle of the day.
It's a very odd place, but also very beautiful. The buildings are very colourful, and there's a lot to see. Despite being so close to home, it feels VERY foreign. I would love to go back there someday.

"French citizens who've been there for centuries." That's amazing. They look so young and energetic.

Fun fact: there's a lot of ethnic basque people living there and they have their won festivals, the coat of arms of this place has the basque flag on it

All this talk about French Canadians, why don’t we ever think of the Canadian French!

I will literally pay for a book that describes this dude's daily hair regimen.

"they are the butt of endless Canadian jokes" JJ... we need to hear these jokes immediately, like I literally need to know the jokes Canada makes about St Pierre and Miquelon

I visited there several years ago as part of a trip to Newfoundland. A guidebook described it as "a slightly seedy French provincial town", and that's pretty much right on the money.

The world to the French - “You know colonialism isn’t cool anymore”

The French *Takes a drag from a cigarette, swills their wine glass and shrugs shoulders

JJ should visit this place. The Quebec in him would enjoy it.

Cool! France also borders Brazil and Suriname (through French Guiana), and the Netherlands (not in Europe but through the split island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean).

The French maybe be different to the Brits but we have one thing in common- we just cannot let these meaningless islands go! Haha!

I went there with my French class when i was a teenager. You are so close to Canada but it feels like you are in Europe, its crazy feeling.

In history class in grade 7 or 8 I was seated right next to a map of Canada. One day I noticed there were these little islands labeled France in brackets. Since then I’ve really wanted to go there, and I find it so fascinating that they exist and that so little people know about them. But I have noticed word has definitely been getting out about them recently

Did you know that the largest French border is with Brazil? French Guiana!

I wonder what Quebeckers think of the place. Considering the common French heritage and all.
