I was wondering if you have used a reel with a metal braid ready spool. I recently purchased a piscifun carbon x and it has one.

I just put a wrap of electrical tape before I spool. Seems to work well.

Here's one- a 3/4" slice of bicycle tire inner tube. In camping and bush crafting, these are known as ranger bands.

I don't use anything as a backing on my reels..not sure why people act like its a big deal. Never had any slippage

I say don’t use one because braids expensive and you only need a little so I fill up half my spool with cheap mono

The constriction from the line on that rubber will grip it down, that's the point of it. Without the rubber there, no matter how tight the line is spooled, it's gonna slip if you putting braid straight onto metal. Mono backing has no benefits apart from stopping the braid from slipping, if you get spooled it's gonna pop like nothing.
