Para los que le interese, la manzana es de las pocas frutas que no crecen a partir del ovario, sino que crece a partir del tubo floral (Hipanto) y lo que vemos en la parte de arriba cuando agarramos una manzana son todos los antiguos estambres y parte de la corola.

TIL: some young apples start out with a red coloration only to turn green during its growth and then red again when ripening.

This would explains why some of the small reddish apples I've picked before are harder and tastes nothing like apples ready to be eaten.

It's amazing how much goes into producing an apple! All of the things that have to happen in order for the air, water, and soil to be changed into a bit of food are astounding, but we take for granted how miraculous a process it really is.
