Honestly having Caitlyn keeping tabs on Singe makes sense. She doesn’t trust him or Ambessa and feels they have ulterior motives for hunting Warwick. Then she sees someone following him and reacts because she needs Ambessa to think she is still going along with her hung until she figures out how to keep Warwick out of Ambessa hands.

Gotta ramble about this

The final act confirms that soulmates exist and Arcane’s take on soulmates is easily the best I’ve ever seen. One, by waiting until towards the end to reveal it, they avoiding the thing that makes most soulmate stories fall flat on their faces: predictability. Next to no one saw that crap coming, yet looking back the foreshadowing is crazy obvious for each of the 3 confirmed pairs.

Two, it isn’t exclusively romantic. 2 of the pairings are romantic but one is destined enemies rather than destined lovers.

Three, the nature/tone of the relationship is the thing that is set in stone, NOT the exact trajectory. In every world, Jayce is the only one that stands a chance at stopping Viktor from destroying everything, making them destined enemies. But they’re also best friends in the main storyline. In every world Jinx/Powder and Ekko are in love, but in the main storyline they’re enemies with mutual feelings, they’re not actually together. There are certain aspects that are set in stone, yes, but there’s also plenty of room for variation and chance.

It’s just SUCH a good take all around AGH. Like I feel like I often SOUND like I hate soulmates as a concept which isn’t true at all, I love the concept I just feel like it’s really hard to actually do well, and most stories completely fail at making it engaging. Arcane freaking nailed it tho.

Also each of the three pairings have almost the exact same moment of looking into each other’s eyes while the background noise and music softens a ton, bringing the momentum of the episode to a complete halt and letting the viewer just soak in the relationship for the first time. Like rewatching s1 now that s2 is over it’s so OBVIOUS that these 3 pairings have a noticeably different relationship type to any other relationships in the show, and they all have clear parallels with one another, yet thanks to the general tone of the show you’d NEVER think for a SECOND that soulmates are a thing until episode 7 hints it and the finale finally confirms it. The fact that one of the last scenes of the show completely recontextualizes the entire series is absolutely insane.
