The Boss Baby is a 2017 American computer-animated comedy film loosely based on the 2010 picture book of the same name by Marla Frazee. Directed by Tom McGrath and written by Michael McCullers, the film stars the voices of Alec Baldwin as the title character, along with Miles Bakshi, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Tobey Maguire.

The whole story is based on a lie. His parents told him, a 7-year-old, the real answer on where babies came from and became traumatized. His daughter at the end asks the same question and didn't want to scar her like he was, so he created this crazy-ass baby corporation that makes the babies and she ends up imagining her as the new boss baby.
That's my theory anyway.

I think we all know why this movie was nominated for an Oscar; because the snobs at the Oscars see animation as an inferior art form. They've said themselves that don't even watch the movies, and they just pick the movies they think kids liked the most.

The real problem with this movie is that it illustrates how few damns the Oscar committee gives about animation.
If THIS can get nominated for an Oscar, then there's no point of anyone actually trying to make GOOD animated features of any value. They can just continue to puke out piles of animated schlock with no effort to advance or improve animation.
It's also why you can almost guarantee an Oscar goes to the most recent Pixar or Disney film year after year since nobody else is trying.
Even if you're like me and don't give a toss about the Oscars, the film industry itself does, and so it still has an effect on those of us who genuinely like animation and would rather not see bad slapstick and poop/fart jokes passing as good animations.
In a decent world, Boss Baby shouldn't even be up for consideration, but those in Hollywood with actual power are so snobby against animation, probably considering it just for kids and lower tier in value, that they'll just keep half-assing the genre as cheaply as possible.

We need to raise the bar of animation quality. Not just the actual illustration, but in it's ability to tell an imaginative story that's not restrained by live action.

7:12 "This whole film is like a zen riddle of idiocy: If you solve it, you don't become enlightened, you just become dumber!" A more perfect description of this film has never been uttered XD

This movie was actually based off a children’s book that was about 20 pages

Great basis for a movie that’s about 1 and a 1/2 hours long

You know why his fantasy keeps changing so fast? Because that's how kids are. They don't imagine one thing all the time, sure, they have a fantasy adventure, but it's not limited to ONE adventure. The baby in the suit though? I dunno.

Why did this movie get it’s own Netflix series?!

I read once someone's theory that the story is a kid dealing with his family's loss of a baby. Essentially, parents have the first baby that the little boy doesn't want around. He actively fights it in his imagination, but in reality he's dealing with the struggle of his parents turning all their attention to their sick newborn and the baby seems to be a villain to him. The baby ends up dying (getting promoted) and he misses this sibling that initially he didn't want. He asks his parents for his brother back. his parents try again, and luckily it's another little boy, not uncommon. And that's the current little brother he's grown up with. His story, his memory and his fantasies are all coping mechanisms for dealing with something he doesn't understand at 7 years old.

I always thought that theory, while dark, was extremely interesting. Then I realized it gave too much credit to the writers of this movie.

"Yes...I'm the baby Jesus."...I sometimes get the feeling that's how Alec Baldwin sees himself already :P

the oscars are a joke, especially for animation. In no reality this should be paired with Coco for the same award.
And in general, i feel that the "best animated picture" award is rather generic. Besides the fact the Disney wins it pretty much every year, it's a vague ass category.
How can movies like, say, Loving Vincent and Valzer with Bashir be paired with Coco and Inside Out? Like, animation is a medium, not a genre.
