Arguably, a time signature isn't actually a ratio, so reducing it is inappropriate. It occasionally is useful to think about it as one, but you'll get confused.

That said, I'm a software engineer. So maybe don't listen to me.

3/4 is counted as 1 + a 2 + a 3 + a
6/8 is counted as 1 2 3 2 5 6

Assuming it's triplets

answer: commutative property of addition doesn’t work in music (2 groups of 3 is accented differently than 3 groups of 2 though the numbers add up to 6)

Can’t it be the same as 3/4? If you put the emphasis on 1, 3, and 5 doesnt it function the same as 3/4? I’m not particularly well educated, just wondering.
