Many Indians are delighted at the prospect of Rishi Sunak becoming the first person of Indian origin to become British prime minister, just as Hindus like him celebrated Diwali across the world on Monday. The 42-year-old s also Britain's first prime minister of colour and the youngest in more than two centuries.

PM of U.K., VP of the U.S.A., 4 ministers in Canada. People of Indian descent are proving their global prowess, yet again in world history.

As a Kenyan I remember when Obama became US president. The atmosphere was electric. He's definitely still a much admired person here. Congratulations PM Sunak. Good luck.

First person's audio translation is incomplete and complete one "As they were (British) rule over India many years so, becoming of Indian origin PM of UK is proud for us. I am proud on Sunak for his hard work through which he earn this position.

To be honest, as an Indian I would say that it’s a great moment for soft power projection, but there is nothing to be to elated or happy about. because he is a British citizen born in Southampton and he’s a conservative British Prime Minister. He is a citizen of Britain, his duties for the people of Britain not India. while we might appreciate that he has Indian origin, but he will take stands according to his country which is Britain. He will do what is best for interest of Britain. Though it is certainly appreciable that he respects Hindu culture and proudly claims to be a Hindu, but I think we should not get too much carried away.

The UK that ruled India for 200 years! Today a person of the same Indian origin is the Prime Minister of UK. It's a proud moment for India.

As an indian...it doesn't matter if he is of Indian descent... he's going to be Britain's PM not India's...also there are 1.3 billion of us....we have diverse opinions too

He is British of Indian origin and his parents were Kenyan of Indian origin. His grandfather emigrated to Kenya in the 1930s from what is modern day Pakistan.

As an Indian I'm happy for the fact that the country which had put boards like 'Indians and dogs are not allowed.' (I don't mean to be rude or hurt anybody. I'm sorry if I do.) in restraunts and other public places inside India has got an Indian origin PM. At the same time I also understand that he is an Indian just natively but British in all other sense. This news cannot bring any betterment to England-India relationship than it was before.
