Curbello was the BEST SHOOTER on the Illini. Look at his soft touch in the first Purdue game, in which Curbello brings them all the way back to tie and OT. He can hit from the paint and above the rim. His only weak time was 2021, prior to the concussion. He wasn't himself. He was trying to execute the Coach's game plan and looked indecisive. Let him play!

I’m leaning on St John’s. Let me know if I’m right.

The game Rob is trying to think of is the game against Purdue in Champaign where he had 20 points and six rebounds

Curbelo is an all American level player, he was injured majority of the season and didn't have much playing time because there were a lot of guards on the roster

What an accurate assessment. He was a magician in AAU basketball, largely because it is so wide open, little defense, and all offense. While Curbelo was actually above average on defense at Illinois this year (so, he did try to fit in a defense-first style), this year he shot at about 50% of what he did last year. He also was generally very effective in getting the ball to Kofi at precisely the place Kofi wanted it. In all other aspects, he generally failed to be able to run an offense with any of the other players. He was not likely the Illini’s greatest liability, but his drop off from the Ayo year was incredibly bad. His decision-making made him look like a bad high school player at times. Nevertheless, with all his failings, Illinois was often better with him on the floor, largely because Illinois lost the only experienced guard who could hit the seam, go t the bucket, and score a critical basket when Ayo went pro. Underwood understands now that he has to have at least one skilled (and long) guard who can take over when he has to. As much as I admire Trent Frazier and was impressed by what Plumber brought to 3-point shooting, as we have witnessed in the Sweet 16 teams, the level of D-1 play for the 10 or more best teams demands long and big guards for both defense and offense. If Alphonso Plumber fits the typical program’s approach, he was likely slightly under 6 feet tall with shoe’s on! Neither he nor Trent Frazier was capable of taking another player one-on-one and scoring. Trent succeeded when he pulled up 10-feet beyond the 3-point line AND MADE THE SHOT, but he was not able to create a shot. As much as the idiots want to blame Underwood, he has actually done an amazing job with the limited talent he has had outside the center position. Melendez, Goode, Kofi, and Hawkins (when his head is in it) combined with the new recruits coming in give Illinois the best chance to rise to a true Elite 8 type team. Did Underwood do a good job? He beat every Big 10 team this year except Purdue that advanced significantly further than the Illini one win and done exit. He loves Illinois. Lon Kruger and Bill Self, the two best coaches in Illinois history, left the program before accomplishing anything. Kruger has become a nomadic wanderer, so he has never accomplished what he could have at Illinois, but he made a lot of money. Self is simply the next Wooden or Coach K. I hate he left Illinois, but he was always a Kansas or Oklahoma guy. He went to school in that area; he was raised on the legends of Oklahoma State and Kansas. He wanted to raise his family there. I root against him for leaving Illinois, but I admire his superior class and ability. Coach Underwood an become one of America’s great coaches, but Bill Self could have done no better, perhaps worse than Underwood with the talent pool. No team winning the national championship this year will do without a 4 or 5-star recruit at guard. Underwood develops talent as ell as anyone I have ever seen, and he, like most great coaches, will let the Curbelo types walk! As I did with John Wooden and Bobby Knight (who, you recall, let Larry Bird go) when they let those who wanted it their way or else, walked. Adam Miller still has 4 years of eligibility, but what has he really learned? He should have stayed.

Curbelo back east closer to home? Seton Hall?

Da'monte Williams was more of a liability than Cubelo. William couldn't hit a 3 to save his life and those stupid fouls all season long.

Would rather think Terrence Shannon is 1 Andre 2. Andre was never a NBA player, he is who he is, a really good college player

Ed Cooley would be a perfect fit, history of developing PG’s, and will put some hair on his chest

I guess he decided if he ever wanted to have a chance to play for a National Championship, he would need to leave Illinois.

Illinois needs to move on with Underwear! Corbels leaving, Miller left. Cockburn was a hair from leaving. Underwear is a C level coach. He can not recruit any Chicago big talent. Next year will be the beginning of mediocre for as long as they keep that coach around.
