If Reveille barks in a class she's visiting, it is school tradition that said class must end early.

Haha got this right away. Gig ‘Em!!! Reveille was the name of the dog mascot because Texas A&M used to be a military school. Back in the 1920s a group of cadets found a stray dog on the side of the road and snuck it back on campus and into their barracks. The next morning the dog kept barking during the reveille bugle call and the name stuck. As each reveille passes away, they were buried on campus near the stadium and because of the scoreboard after the stadium expansion they can now keep track of the game even if they can no longer “see” it. The current Reveille is Reveille X. Starting with Reveille III they have all since been Collies.

I was so confused because "reveille" is "to wake up" in french so I sticked to this idea

0:17 is such a great moment! 😂
Like I know the format of the show is the question is read twice at the start, but it just plays so funny.
- *finishes question*
- "Revelly?!"
- *ignores and immediately rereads question*

As a UT alum, I immediately thought “isn’t that the dog?”

Texas Tech Alum here, which is also an A&M rival. Knew the answer immediately. Also, Texas Tech has a statue of Will Rogers riding his horse Soapsuds into the sunset, but the statue is positioned so that the horses ass point directly at A&M.

Yes Sabrina, the living Reveille gets to watch the game in person. The mascot is so called because the original Reveille was a stray taken in and would qualify as forbidden pet who got barked at the sounding of Reveille. I forget what the first one was, but the second one and to the current one have been boarder collies.

Kyle is a surname of Edwin Jackson Kyle, that in 1904 created stadium with seating with his money to promote the school's athletics. (A&M didn't want to provide funds, so he spent 650$ of his own money, it's 22-23k just in purchase value today, in constraction it probably would have cost 100k+ today)

At about 1:50, Tom jokes about bugling the campus awake on game days. Well, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the marching band would march from the band building, through the most populated residential area, and blast a few tunes directly at the dorm towers on our way to the football field. This would indeed start rather early in the morning on a Saturday. I’m sure they would have found a single bugler more pleasant.

I love that Tom knows Mike has a better home than many people! The current Mike came to LSU from a big cat rescue facility.

"I would assume Texas A&M has a strong football culture."

No kidding.

As a TAMU graduate, I know the answer. I look forward to seeing you figure it out.

I think the AIP crew are my favourite trio on Lateral. (And with the high quality of guest that Tom has on, that's really saying something.)

As a french person, I was really confused and amused at their way of pronouncing "Reveille" x) (which is french for "wake up", and is pronounced rev-ayy)

The best part of this, as an American Southerner, is watching these Europeans be absolutely flummoxed by the awesomeness and insanity that is SEC football.

So it's similar to 1FC Köln, which has a pet mascot - a goat named Hennes IX, and as the name suggests, it's the 9th goat since this tradition started

Very kind of Tom to use the American pronunciation of Reveille.
