Transcript
My name is Sana Syed. I am a pediatric gastroenterologist, which means I take care of children with diseases of the gut. We take care of children from when they're babies all the way through young adulthood. Our patients often present with things like diarrhea, vomiting, blood in stool, and a variety of other gastrointestinal symptoms. I really love children. I love them in all their shapes and sizes. I love tiny babies. I love grumpy teenagers who won't tell you anything that's going on in their lives, and then the five-year-olds will tell you every single thing. For me, also, on a global scale, any society's most vulnerable members are often it's women and children. And so, knowing that that was a need and knowing I love children is really what drove me into pediatrics.
I try to take care of every child as if they're my own. When families come into clinic, they share very personal, intimate details of their lives. They tell us about their hopes, their dreams, their fears for their children, and that is a huge privilege. I want to make sure that families know that no question is too tiny. They can ask whatever they want, and I will take the time to listen to them and be there with them. At UVA and the Children's Hospital, we really take pride in getting to know you and your family. Our entire philosophy is that we will get to know you, and you will get to know us. You will get to know our nurses or practice. And that we will walk the walk with you, that intentional commitment, I really feel is what sets us apart.
