35, 000 job cuts sounds a lot like layoffs to me

No one talks about German automakers operating costs went up, the sourcing of natural gas from Russia is severely reduced ( cheap energy) vs other sources, this impacts their margins in a significant way. Not withstanding the delays in adoption, R&D and go to market to produce affordable EVs, the uptick in sales with price drops showed people want to adopt the transformation but not at the current market prices, for any or most cars, some have major quality issues ( recalls).

Chinese companies started over a decade ago ( as Tesla did), not it shows why.

The real long term problem is that newer generations don’t feel about cars the way earlier gens did. My gen couldn’t wait to get their first car and I know lots of young people that don’t even get their license till they’re 20. Also, EV’s are a lot like PC Laptops in that they don’t garner loyalty — people will change brands based on price. ICE cars like BMW and Porsche have character that EV’s can’t provide.

They are still delusional. This deal will be revised every six months. Because they have to cut cost immediately. There won't be any volkswagen by 2030.

Yes, Volkswagen is having a hard time. But Volkswagen was able to stand up to the Japanese wave in the last century, when the US lost out. Now VW is loosing from the Chinese wave. And the US is losing again. A second time. Also remember, Germans are very resilient. Sooner or later, they will make a come back. More likely, later.

Cutting vehicle production as a planned move is such a weird concept to me. We need local production, we need cheaper cars, lowering manufacturing quantity is not going to help with either.

Volkswagen cars are terrible (at least in USA) and just cannot compete.
