Hi Gary, as a retired Finance Director, this is how I explain the growth in wealth inequality: In the early 70’s there were just 2-3 Billionaires on earth, and people could name them (Howard Hughes, John Paul Getty). In the past 50 years, the world’s population has doubled from 4Bn to 8Bn, but there are also now around 3, 000 Billionaires. On a planet of finite resources, that clearly shows how wealth has been transferred . This example is one of the few that I find really resonates .

Tax the rich. I saw this reel that was someone asking a random 20 something girl in the street what she thinks needs to be done about the economy and she said tax the rich, even just 2%. Then the video broke down what that 2% could pay for. In the comments, it blew my mind, people were up in arms saying 'why should they be taxed 2%, they've worked for it they deserve it.' And this is what we're really up against, normal people being so enamoured by the lie that they too may one day be mega rich that they take it as a personal attack when in reality they're actually getting materially poorer but supporting this delusion.

In my 60s and comfortably retired, I tell everyone I meet to listen to your stuff. I think emphasising the post war reckoning is really where we need to be. So many younger people have only ever experienced the learned helplessness, the imagined impotence of the ordinary working people. We need to reignite the spirit of power that comes with solidarity, collective action, community.

Gary, your ability to patiently repeat and rephrase how inequality is at the root of everything is precisely what enabled your growth on YouTube (in my opinion). Something also just occurred to me, the 'Take back control' tagline resonated with so many but we missed who we should be taking back control from. The rich and powerful pointed at the poor and oppressed and told us that it was them we needed to save ourselves from but it is the rich and powerful we need to take back control from. Why are we not on the streets demanding better? Enough is enough!!!

Some powerful stuff at the end, so right, my father described to me the post war atmosphere in the uk and his office in the civil service where returning servicemen wouldn't be pushed around, they demanded decency having protected the rich. My grandfather described to me his motivation to join up in 1914, "you got a pair of boots" he was an impoverished orphan and went to the trenches in Ipres and somehow survived and returned a year after the war ended because "we had to clear up" again he was asked to help in ww2 and also survived people really struggled to ensure the rich remained comfortable and they need to be taxed heavily to redress the balance, well done Gary for grafting the system and then speaking up about it, stay safe and keep the expose coming 👍

The simple idea of “it’s going to be done slowly. You can do this. WE can do this.” Is so refreshing and nice to hear. Literally brought me to tears as a 24yo who knows so many people who have lost hope, it’s nice to see someone not afraid to say how it is hard, but we CAN prevail. As you ended the video you referenced that quote about how there is only the same battle, being fought over and over again. We have succeeded in the past, and we WILL again. Thanks for sparking my and hopefully many others’ financial literacy. The United States has to be fought for, WE the People of these United States must stand our ground and work together, or otherwise fall to darkness and despair
