Waqf Board Bill in Parliament | What is Waqf Board? | UPSC Current Affairs 2024

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which seeks to amend the 1995 Waqf Act has been referred to a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) after facing strong objections from the Opposition parties.

In Islamic law, waqf refers to property (movable or immovable) dedicated in the name of God for religious and charitable purposes.

Key highlight of the Bill
- The Bill proposes the inclusion of two Muslim women and two non-Muslim members on a Waqf Board, and inserts a new Section to prevent the wrongful declaration of a property as “Waqf”.
- It introduces the District Collector as an arbiter to decide if a property is a Waqf or government land.
- It also removes the finality of decisions made by waqf tribunals, allowing aggrieved parties to appeal directly to the concerned High Court.

Criticism
- There are concerns that the bill aims to deprive the Muslim community of their land, assets and the “freedom to manage religious affairs” guaranteed under Article 26 of the Indian Constitution.

The idea of a WAQF and WAQF BOARD in India/Bharath specifically formulated for the Muslim ownership and administration of land together with the progressive accumulation of land specifically donated by Muslims for the purpose of charatible security for Muslims in the face of Hindus of Bharat/India extending their hands of secularism while the MUSLIMS slyly practice their ideology of remaining completely separate from Hindus while living in a predominant Hindu country can be viewed a an act of racism and should be unacceptable and ABOLISHED and all land taken back by the government and returned to the original owners.
Muslims who had left their land/s to settle in Pakistan at the time of 1947 partition should be viewed as abandoned and not any form of donation to the WAQF and WAQF BOARD.
