A very interesting point. Although I would argue that it feels like Silco also didn't fully accept Jinx, because he rejected the part of her that was "weak" and the part that Vi spoke to.
I love Silco-Jinx relationship, because it shows that everyone deserves love, and that parent's love directly influences child's self worth. Vi's approach to Jinx was radical, because she didn't accept the bad parts of her sister, wanted to do nothing with them, and was willing to teach Jinx lessons kind of harshly, in order for Jinx to grow up good. Silco accepted the bad part of Jinx and showed her that there was nothing wrong with who she was. But the best parent for Jinx would probably be someone who could love Jinx the way Silco did and at the same time teach her good morals

I'm obsessed with Arcane and I think the relationship between Silco and Jinx is so intresting and one of my favourite father daughter relationships in media.

I think one thing that is important to remember, is that the environment that they live in, if you are born into a war, and your parents teach you how to fight and kill, they are not being abusive, they are trying to help you, if you are born into normal modern society and your parents teach you how to kill, then there is sth wrong... it all depends on the situation. We cannot judge people that are pushed to a corner from thw luxury of our own life. Silco tried his best to prepare Jinx for the reality of their environment based on her abilities and personalities as well as his own. So was he a good dad based on OUR standards? Nope! Was he a good dad based on the situation he was given? I think so. He was also talented in being a dad, how he managed to calm down Jinx after her experience to the degree that she would be able to learn and focus so much on her skills... is amazing really.

Jinx ended up accepting herself as Jinx when Silco showed that even when killed on accident he doesn't care about dying he cares about Jinx's wellbeing and tells her that she's perfect. It broke Jinx's her heart to hear how through it all he never once treated her like Vi did. And that's why Jinx said it was Vi who made Jinx not Silco or the others when she was at her lowest Vi punched her so hard she started bleeding from her nose and when Vi saw what she did she felt horrible and walked out because she couldn't think straight anymore she lost so much and couldn't process it all she wanted to go back to Jinx to apologize but that's where she got abducted and taken to prison.
Vi's guilt must have eaten her alive all this time. So unfortunate for both sisters.

Was so interesting to me how relatable the Silco became as the series progressed and that the viewer almost doesn't want him to die. Loved your analysis of what made Silco tick.

This was excellent, and I totally agree. Most ppl only see the financial in black and white but his and her characters are much much deeper. It's very touching and tragic but is imo the most heart warming part of the series. The most important part I feel is that Silco gave Jinx validation, he valued her over everything else including his freedom and his nation of Zaun

The way I see it, if you look at Jinx as a character and look back and try to put together a past for her, Silco was just about the best dad she could've got. Enough space to go wild, enough leeway to run wild, finances, training and a streak for illegal activities. Someone who provided all that and also gave her ample amounts of much needed validation as she grew up into a fine young woman.

I think it is worth noting that throughout Arcane Silco told Jinx "Jinx is Perfect" but his last words were slightly different. "You're Perfect". I think that had a deeper and more powerful meaning, behind his words. It was like Silco was not saying Jinx is perfect but who She is, His Daughter is Perfect. Find someone that will tell you you're perfect despite your flaws. Now I think Jinx will have less voices in her head from this point on, she is now comfortable enough and reassured that she is Fine how she is.

I honestly hated Mylo more than Silco.. I can't stand bullies.. and Silco is a more supportive father than many men can say they are.

Silco and Jinx are the most interesting characters in Arcane. I'm surprised that many seem to miss the nuance and complexity in Silco's character.

Good analysis. One of the few I've seen that treats Silco as a 3-dimensional character. I've seen other reactions that just reduce Silco to an abuser, manipulator or just some 1-dimensional villain.

I was hoping you'd touch on the confrontation between Jinx, Vi, and Silco at the end of the season. In Vi's naive attempt to save Jinx, she inadvertently pushed Jinx off the edge. Everything she was saying was bringing out all of Jinx's demons, and Vi was completely unaware of the harm she was causing. Silco, on the other hand, saw it clearly and made the attempt to shut Vi up, until ultimately pulling a gun on Vi. Jinx picks up on the danger, but it isn't clear how she interpreted it beyond that in the heat of the moment. She fires reflexively and kills Silco in the process.

This whole setup is a psychological mess. You have Vi, who we can consider the most psychologically stable of the 3, but also psychologically inept. She has absolutely no understanding of Jinx's condition, and foolishly attempts to 'fix' Jinx by forcing what she thinks is right. Vi is completely unaware of how destructive she is, which is why Jinx ultimately rejects her. Then, you have Silco, who to a reasonable degree understands Jinx, but not enough to know how to solve the problem properly. Silco, who is also not the most psychologically stable, not to mention harbors anger towards an oppressive world (among other things), is trying to protect his adopted daughter from Vi's barrage of inconsiderate words. His own background makes him potentially as much a loose cannon as Jinx, if not worse. Was it a good idea to pull a gun to Vi's face? Absolutely not. Is it understandable, considering Silco's background, why he may have ended up doing so? Absolutely.

It's sad really. Both Vi and Silco care about and want to help Jinx. Vi is reasonably, mentally healthy, but has absolutely no understanding of Jinx's mental state. Vi is naive at best, destructive to Jinx at worst. Silco is broken and unfit to help Jinx heal, but is probably the only one who has any real understanding of her. Silco, given his background, can only offer Jinx what has worked for him. When Jinx loses her agency, the best Silco can do is take control and try to solve things the way he understands. Both are unable to help Jinx in the end.

If you ask me, between Vi and Silco, Vi is the more dangerous one to Jinx. At least Silco can see Jinx as she is, not as he wants her to be. Regardless of what one thinks of his methods or morals, he does not strip Jinx of her identity or agency, he argues with her as an equal. Vi, on the other hand, is deluded with her idea of Powder and couldn't see beyond that. She tries to force her own ideals on Jinx, ultimately ignoring all of Jinx's feelings and struggles.

It's frightening how there are so many people like Vi in the real world, and I particularly dislike such people.

People consider Silco to be the villain but don't realize how much a hand Vi plays in Jinx's downfall. The title of the last episode is literally 'The Monster You Created', referring to Vi creating Jinx. If anything, Silco may have been the one keeping Jinx afloat. If anyone thinks Silco is a villain, they should consider Vi to be just as much. And if anyone thinks Jinx is a sympathetic character, they should feel the same way about Silco.

I'm somewhat glad Silco died in the end though. His story is fixed and perfect, and it is unlikely it would be ruined in the future.

Characters who probably shouldn’t be taking care of children having to basically become a parent is such a fun thing to see/read.

The only other time I’ve seen this is somehow both better and worse: an affably evil scientist/demon of wrath transforms into an octopus and watching over a small girl.

Granted, the girl later goes on to be an assassin and a dictator, but still.

Oh, yeah, she also nukes the world and has to help save it.

Silco is like the perfect dad I guess by his own standards. He wants to mold her into a certain shape and he’s taking all the right steps to do so. But good fatherhood tends not to be characterized by your child becoming a mass murderer who can’t connect with other people, including their family (who you actively tried to hide from her through gaslighting and quietly having said family killed).

But at least he succeeded in affirming her… identity and sorta solving her anxious attachment. She ended up kidnapping and killing him after he attempted to murder her sister in front of her whom she had also kidnapped and tried to get to commit murder against someone she schizophrenically hallucinates as an impish monster trying to replace her.

But don’t worry, he’s a great dad actually. If we qualify good fatherhood as simply caring about your child.

I don’t understand why multiple therapists are saying this is a healthy relationship. First of all Jinx has no friends, family (Jinx didn’t know Vi was alive), or relationships outside of Silco witch makes them co dependent on each other. Next Silco manipulates her and uses her “do you remember how she left you who cared for you I am your family everyone else betrays us” not to mention how he uses her in his work and how when he meets Vi again he says how much stronger Jinx is than her. Also the writers intension was to make their relationship feel off like Jinx sitting on Silco’s lap like a child. We’re not even supposed to be rooting for their relationship, Vi is our main protagonist we as the audience are rooting for her to succeed in her goals and her goal is to find powder and latter distroy Silco (also Silco is the antagonist who is ment to stop Vi from achieving her goals) I know they loved and cared for each other but that didn’t make their relationship healthy.
