Joe Biden welcomed member states to the 2024 Nato summit in Washington, an event being closely watched for proof the embattled US president can still lead effectively.

In his welcoming remarks, Biden announced the United States and its allies would deliver to Ukraine five additional air defence systems before awarding Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with the United States' highest honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom
