In today's video we take a look at a new for 2022 Paul Reed Smith S2 Custom 24-08. I unbox it from the factory packaging, put it on the bench to measure the neck thickness, weight, go over the fretwork before playing it and giving my thoughts afterwards. Hey, Jim, great video. I got my PRS CE24 specifically for the 85/15 pickups - I love their clarity and sound. PRS does not sell them separately. Paul Reed Smith has been asked many times, will they ever sell their pickups separately and he always answers, "No, never, how it works is you buy the PRS pickups and you get a guitar with them for free."

How have you never popped up on my YT feed before? Your reviews are really stellar. Good production, focus on the right details that matter to players, variety of sound demos, genuinely balanced/honest. I’ll keep watching 👍

That is definitely one of the most beautiful finishes that I’ve seen on a PRS. I also wanted to compliment you on your playing because it seems to me like you almost have your own style of playing that is instantly recognizable from the other guitarist YouTubers that I watch. Your playing is as smooth as butter, and that should be something to be proud of.

Love the color Jim. I hope to get a PRS this year even if it's the SE line. All the best.

Haha I said versatile like 15 times in my video on the same guitar. Great review man. I came into a very same mindset. Cheers!

Great video as always Jim. For some reason I missed this video on release day, but it couldn't have been a better time. Been looking at going down the Custom 24 road, but the pickups would have to be good. Spoiled with those 85/15 pickups in my CE24 😂

Just bought a Custom SE 24. It is great. Very nicely made—high quality. As you say, it is versatile and I can dial in tons of sound varieties. Feels great to play. My only issue is that the strings buzz. But I think that is because it is my first electric guitar. I learned on classical, where you really hammer the strings hard, so I am trying to adjust to a lighter touch. Overall fantastic—I am very pleased.

I’ve gone all PRS all the time after 50 years. Single coil, P90, Humbucker, 22 fret, 24 fret, I’m known for being in tune and on time at live gigs.

Liked the video. I have an epiphone les paul custom and love it. I just play at home for myself and really like the look and color of the of the PRS guitars. I have a Jackson soloist with a Floyd rose and I hate it. I don’t like fenders and I’m on the fence whether to get a full blown Gibson, Les Paul, or a PRS. I’m not sure if I want to spend that much money on a Gibson when the Epiphone sounds almost identical. Right now I have been going back-and-forth between getting an SE custom 24-08 or the S2 custom 24-08. I really want one with locking tuners and I like how the S2 has the color all the way around. I’m debating on whether to spend the extra thousand dollars on an S2 when it has the same pick ups as the SE. I could save $1000 and get the SE and just by locking tuners and it would be the same guitar at a BBQ thousand less. Do the pick ups in the S2 sound pretty good? I’m going to be getting on Marshall DSL 40 CR I’m just play in my Living Room and I will never play anywhere else but I’m wondering if the pick up sound good enough for just home use?

Really great review. Was looking seriously hard at this for a 24 fret option to go with my Core DGT, especially with the neat switching options but I have to say I'm leaning more towards a CE 24 due to the pickups. In fact, I may go with a used Core CE 24, still thinking it over but in any event I really appreciated this fine review. Thanks.

Top review Jim, funny I get on well with the 58/15(s) in my Thinline but not sure on these. Build quality though is amazing.

Nice clean tones! And i love that top. I may not be a PRS guy but i do like that one. I usually don't comment unless it's at least a guitar I've owned. (Name brand)

Love the colour!
Would like to try one of these models at some stage. I have a Zak Myers SE which I love, so I guess it's only natural to try the Custom 24

I know it must look Gorgeous in person and I’m sure the the body and neck are perfect. But my concern is the electronics. If same as the SE. wouldn’t it be worth it just to save money and just get the SE?

Sick sick finish. I agree with the price. But in this market it is what it is and PRS is one of the higher paying guitar companies. I like supporting them. This will be a stunner on stage.

Hi Jim, nice video and a very colourful one this time especially on my oled screen!
I agree for almost everything you said about this PRS, it's a great brand but there is on thing i would like to know if the SE version 24/08 is as good as this one and are they comming with the same pickups??? Regards, Eric

Great review, Jim. That's a stunner of a guitar ! I do have a question for you though, if the electronics are the same as the SE's, and the SE's are already built to a high quality, is there a big step up in terms of feel, fit and finish, given the price difference between those and this guitar ? (By the way, a local shop has the SE Starla on sale at £399 instead of £549, this video isn't helping me to ignore that, lol).
