Our visit to Rudyard Kipling's Batemans, in East Sussex, at Christmas
Показать описание
A look around Rudyard Kipling's home, Batemans, at Christmas.
Starting at the Mulberry Cafe we take a stroll to the front of the Jacobean Mansion that is Batemans on a winter's day.
Once we step into the entrance hall, we find that Bateman's has been decorated for Christmas with a jungle book theme. From here, we step into Carrie Kipling's office, which is a recently opened space.
On the ground floor, we discover the music room and the parlour, both featuring the Lotus flowers, iconic symbols of life in India, reflecting Rudyard Kipling's early years.
Moving on upstairs, we arrive at a bedoom, where the apes from the Jungle Book are running wild at Christmas.
A step across the hallway and we arrive at Rudyard Kiplings study, in a scene as if he had just stepped out. Next we enter the exhibition hall, featuring a display based on 130 years of the Jungle Book.
Next, we enter the bedroom of John Kipling, the only son of Rudyard & Carrie Kipling, who sadly lost his life at the tender age of 18 in the trenches of the First World War. It's decorated to celebrate happy days of his childhood at Batemans.
Heading back downstairs, we visit the final room at Bateman's, the dining room decorated again with Lotus flowers for an Indian-themed Christmas.
We complete our tour by stepping into the gardens to get a better look at Batemans on a crisp winter's day.
