Never ask a German company (that is still around) what they did between 1933 and 1946.

Like Mercedes Benz didn’t mention Hitler used one of their massive 6x6s when marketing the 6x6 G wagon. 😂

Can’t forget USS New Mexico (BB-40), the US Navy’s first hybrid battleship. Commissioned in 1918, which predates the tank. Granted, it wasn’t a diesel engine, it was an oil-fired steam turbine on the generator side, but still pretty cool.

When you said hybrid Porsche, I was thinking something more of the Panzer variety 😂

As a tank lover, there were many many prototypes of hybrid tanks but diesel always was king because of the reliability. SO glad the technology is catching up

My mom has worked for ZF for 30 years and they are very proud of their history. I absolutely love how they put up a big timeline of their companies innovations every event they host. The best part is the entire section of 1933-1945 being entirely missing!😂

The US also had a hybrid tank which was the T1E1 heavy tank and it’s basically an M6 with better reverse speed

Yeah, even Volkswagen doesnt even talk about their founding, so not terribly surprised its older brother Porsche doesn't talk about that Tiger.

Other Hybrid tanks: the TOG prototypes and the Maus.
Maus was designed so on could power another while it forded a river.

An American company called Owen Magnetic made a hybrid luxury car in the early 1900's, but the electric transmission/generator technology was patented in 1896

Just did a trans swap on a 2002 prius, it was pretty cool to see how they set up the electric motor as the starter and used an electromagnetic clutch. I cant wait to take apart the core and see what failed, how it works, and how i can reuse the electric motor.

the fact that you know about this makes you even cooler to a WW2 student like me. FUN FACT: Porsche did use this power plant again and it's still around today in the preserved "Maus" tank

The second you said Porsche... And then 1940 i already knew. Funny enough that was going to be the example I would use too.

That little French company you mocked is why the 911 is a 911 not a 901. They own the 0 in the middle of a model number.

As you said earlier, you don't have to do it first, you just have to do it best.

Don't forget about how they liked to get stuck, overheat, and catch fire... A floofy girl told me that. 😊

Yep even Brigs and Stratton had a hybrid in 1980. Ton of Lead acid batteries, Briggs generator, and tandem rear axles for all the weight.
