My grandma used to go to the gas station and tell the attendant to put fifty cents in. They used to snicker and say "Oh, do you think it'll fit, Ma'am?"

I'm from Detroit too. And yeah, I would put $3 in my tank and it would last a while. And that wasn't that long ago neither. My daughter is 26 and she was six when it was like $1.16 a gallon.

My sister and I would get $3 in "regular leaded" gas and go to Kmart at closing and get a bag full of ham sandwiches for $1 from the deli at the front ....we had it made...

Fifty cents a gallon when I got my license too...and the electric bill was $6.00 a month. 1976.

When I was a kid I got 20 a week allowance. That was enough for gas, movie, and pizza

This one grocery store I go to has this policy of awarding perks according to how much you spend. They can either be used to get discounts at the gas pump, or you can take the amount off the price of your food. I told the cashier to put the money toward the gas; I already know how to cook stingy and stretch food.
