Saving a Life: Tagging and Releasing an Endangered Sea Turtle

The Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle is the world's most endangered species of sea turtle. Experts and volunteers rescue these turtles when they wash up on the beaches of New York.

Sea Turtles wash up on the beaches of New York, due to cold stunning, a phenomenon similar to hypothermia. The turtles are rescued by the team at the New York Marine Rescue Center, and slowly warmed up over a period of 5 days.

the sea turtles are then cared for and monitored until the ocean temperatures are safe for them to be returned to the wild. Before they are released, the turtles receive a satellite tag, so their movements can be monitored.
