JAMES TAVERNIER, Allan McGregor and Steven Davis led moving tributes from Rangers in honour of the club's legendary manager Walter Smith.

The Rangers stars laid a wreath in his name at the statue of iconic captain John Greig outside Ibrox, in the wake of Smith's passing yesterday after a battle with illness, aged 73.

Captain James Tavernier carried the garland with McGregor and Davis, who were both managed by Smith, by his side.

A heartfelt message attached to their wreath read: "Gaffer, you have been an inspiration to everyone you have met, your legacy will never be forgotten. You will always be in our hearts. A true legend. Simply the Best."

All three players were visibly emotional, highlighting the impact and influence of the two-time manager, who was later also briefly the chairman of the club.

Current boss Steven Gerrard was then joined by assistant coach Gary McAllister in laying another wreath in tribute to the Scottish football legend, followed by Gers chairman Douglas Park and Ibrox staff.
