Paul admits that he made bad choices on the starting point he'd offer for alternate picking, which made it unduly difficult as it required too much synchronized skill and accuracy for someone starting out with alt picking. He suggests that a better starting point would be a simple blues shuffle, where by all the basics are formed and perfected without the difficulty of 3 nps runs.

Last time Paul Gilbert did a guest lesson he said he'd been teaching alternate picking badly for years. I guess Gus would disagree.
